Vamos de excursión
Tras comprar la excursión en el hotel, el guía nos acompaña a la montaña. Tras tomar las precauciones adecuadas, el guía anuncia:
- “Ahora bajaremos 2000 metros de altura y nos encontraremos en la parte baja de la montaña”.
Al llegar allí increpamos sorprendidos “No se ve ninguna montaña! Solo una enorme pared”. Educadamente el guía nos corrije:
- “Sí, es una montaña, pero es tan grande que no se puede ver bien, tendríamos que salir al espacio. Piense que son 27 kilómetros de altura…”
A ver, aver. Algo falla en esta historia, no? El monte más alto es el Everest con sus casi 9 kilómetros de altura.
Pues no. Hay un monte que triplica al Everest y es el más grande conocido. Solo hay un pequeño problema, hay que irse a Marte, allí tenemos al impresionante Monte Olimpo.
Las características de este viejo volcán son impresionantes, recomiendo su lectura aquí. Si estubiera en la Tierra se saldría casi de la atmósfera… Porque en Marte no hay atmósfera, no? Error. En Marte hay atmósfera. Es sólo el 1% respecto a la densidad que tenemos aquí en la Tierra, pero no es el vacío. Es fundamentalmente dióxido de carbono, el famoso gas del efecto invernadero que da tanto que hablar en los últimos años. Los ingleses planean enterrarlo. Algo que intuitivamente parece insostenible a largo plazo, pero quién sabe.
¿Cómo es posible que con tantas películas acerca de Marte, en ninguna salga una excursión al monte Olimpo? Si hasta dicen algunos científicos que es donde tenemos más posibilidades de encontrar vida. Punto negativo para los guionistas marcianos…
